Quotable: Embracing One’s Story

As the release of my book Nocturne approaches, I’m offering a few glimpses of the story by sharing some quotes.  Today’s quote reflects one aspect of Meg’s journey as a character – the Phantom represents exciting, impossible things to her, and she’s always wanted to know more about him.  Her journey over the course of the trilogy, though, is to take ownership of her own story.

Look for Nocturne on June 5th in Kindle, paperback and hardback, and pre-order your Kindle copy today.

Nocturne Virtual Launch Party

As you MAY have heard once or twice, my next book, Nocturne, will be out June 5th.  I would normally throw a book launch and signing party, but seeing as we’re in a pandemic, gathering lots of people together to share pizza and pass books back and forth is not going to be happening in the near future.  So the good news is that I’m throwing a virtual launch party instead – so you can attend whether you live down the street or on the other side of the world!

I’ve set up an online event on Facebook and will be posting there throughout Launch Weekend with fun Phantom trivia, chances to share your best mask photo, details about the book, and more.  I will also be streaming a live video presentation on YouTube talking about the book, reading an excerpt, and answering questions.  It’s all strange and different, but I think it will be fun!

If you want to get this on your calendar, head over to join the Facebook event, and vote in the poll for the best time for the video presentation.  And if you’re not on Facebook, don’t worry – I’ll be posting the link to the YouTube presentation here too, as soon as I schedule the livestream (which sounds contradictory, but is in fact a thing).

And as always, you can find out more about Nocturne here, and don’t forget that pre-orders are already available!

Pre-Order The Guardian of the Opera: Nocturne Today!

I am so pleased to announce that my next book Nocturne (The Guardian of the Opera, Book 1) is now available for Kindle pre-order.

Order your copy now

The book will release on June 5th, and will also be available in paperback and hardback.  I will, of course, be posting to remind you. 😉

Here’s a bit about the book, just in case you’ve missed all that rambling I’ve been doing about it for the last several years…!

Set against the backdrop of 1880s Paris and the stunning Opera Garnier, The Guardian of the Opera: Nocturne brings you the familiar tale from a different direction. Meg Giry met the Phantom once when she was twelve years old, a new ballet dancer lost in the Opera’s maze. Years later, when an Angel of Music offers singing lessons to her best friend Christine Daaé, Meg is sure she knows what’s actually happening. But as strange events unfold and the pieces stop adding up, Meg has to wonder if she truly understands the Phantom—or Christine.

Erik is a man of many talents and many masks, and the one covering his face may be the least concealing. The opera house is his kingdom and his refuge, where he stalks through the shadows as the Phantom of the Opera, watching over all that occurs. He never intended to fall in love; when he does, it launches him into a new symphony he’s certain can only end in heartbreak.

I can’t wait to share this story with all of you!

The Guardian of the Opera: Nocturne Cover Reveal

I’ve been talking about my Guardian of the Opera trilogy for a long time, and am so pleased that the first book, Nocturne, will be out June 5th – just about two months away!  And today I’m very excited to finally reveal the cover.

First, a little about the story, from the back of the book…

I think this description will rather explain the cover…which you can scroll down to see!

I’m very pleased with how it looks!  I actually took the background picture of the Opera Garnier myself, so it’s especially cool to have it put together like this.  I hope you’ll get your own copy come June. 🙂

Writing Wednesday: Final Edits

The writing projects I’ve been talking about recently have all been continuing along nicely, although things are about to shift to other projects shortly.  I’ve been doing finalish revisions of Guardian III, and am within a few pages of getting to the end of this pass.  My goal was to finish by the end of the month, so I may end up a few days ahead.

Even more excitingly, I ordered the print proof of Guardian I, and that arrived yesterday.  It’s always very cool to see what the book looks like as an actual book for the first time.  I spent all that time adjusting tabs and formatting dropcaps and so on, and seeing the proof is the pay-off.

The actual purpose of the proof is to review and see if everything is looking good as-printed.  It’s close to final.  I need to tweak some small things, and one bigger thing – the gutter isn’t quite right, so the lines of print are falling into the center binding a bit.  It’s readable, it’s not that bad, but I plan to tweak the formatting to give it a better margin.  I love how the cover looks though, and I’m really excited to start sharing that.  My cover reveal is scheduled for about a month from now, so stay tuned for that!

After I finish up the last bit of Guardian III and make formatting edits to Guardian I, I’ll be turning to a totally different focus…sort of.  I plan to spend March doing some new writing, as I have two short stories to finish for an anthology I’m going to be published in later in the year.  The anthology is about people entering into books, and one of my stories involves a ballerina entering Leroux’s Phantom…so it’s not an entirely new focus!  But it is pretty different, and I’m looking forward to doing some new writing soon.
