Blog Spin: Guest Post on The Bookworm Chronicles

Lioness Cover - SmallWe’re spinning on to the second day of my blog tour about The Lioness and the Spellspinners, with a guest post on The Bookworm Chronicles, blogging home of Jessica.

Jessica writes a delightful book blog with quite a few cool regular features, like her monthly post on adaptations she’s been watching.  I also enjoy seeing which books she’s reading for her Classics Club goal.  Jessica is a wonderfully engaged blogger who replies to every comments (something I wish I was better at doing!)  She welcomed me on her blog with a guest post about one of my favorite aspects of writing this series–all the ways, subtle and obvious, that my books connect together, and to the fairy tales that inspired them.

Read about it on The Bookworm Chronicles!

Blog Spin: Interview on Little Lion Lynnet’s

Lioness Cover - SmallWelcome to the first day of my blog spin discussing The Lioness and the Spellspinners!  Appropriately enough, we’re starting with another lioness 😉 over on Little Lion Lynet’s blog.

Lynn is a European author and blogger, with an emphasis on fantasy, science fiction and diversity.  You can frequently catch her stories posted in serial form on her blog, plus several books are available for purchasing.  Lynn is also a lovely person, who has graciously had me on her blog several times over the years.  I’m very happy to kick off this blog tour with an interview with Lynn, who asked some great questions about the story and characters in this novel.

Head on over to Lynn’s to read the interview!

Launch Day! The Lioness and the Spellspinners Is Out!

Lioness Cover - SmallI’m so excited to tell you that my latest novel is now available: The Lioness and the Spellspinners, book 4 of my Beyond the Tales series.

I’ll be off to my writing group tonight with cake to celebrate.  And I hope you’ll consider heading off to buy a copy.  🙂  Get it here: Kindle or Paperback.

If you haven’t read the other books, you can still begin here with the series.  If you really want to start at the beginning, you’re also in luck–the Kindle edition of my first book, The Wanderers, is free today through the weekend!

Read more about Lioness here, check out an excerpt, and come back to the blog in the next couple weeks for my Blog Spin with more about the book and the stories behind it.

Book Review: 52 Small Changes

I like books about improving your life, but I wouldn’t say I read self-help books precisely—I read ones that have more analysis to them, exploring, say, how habits function, which will inevitably lead to advice on how to form better habits.  That book, Gretchen Rubin’s Better than Before, included in its suggested reading section (mostly a gold mine, by the way) 52 Small Changes: One Year to a Healthier, Happier You by Brett Blumenthal.  It sounded like it could have interesting advice—but maybe the title should have tipped me off that it was a little too far into the self-help genre for my taste.

It was not a bad book by any means, and I still think the concept is good: 52 positive changes, intended to be undertaken one per week.  The trouble was the specific changes, and the (lack of) detail on carrying them out.

I wanted clever, unusual suggestions, preferably ones that can be undertaken easily for an outsized result.  Sounds ideal, I know, but for example: many people tell Rubin that forming a habit to make their bed every morning makes them much happier.

52 Small Changes is not those kinds of suggestions.  Continue reading “Book Review: 52 Small Changes”

Novel News: Upcoming Blog Spin–and Pre-Order

Lioness Cover - SmallAs I’ve mentioned a time or two, my next novel, The Lioness and the Spellspinners, will be out October 14th!  As I’ve done in the past, I have some lovely bloggers graciously helping me spread the word.  I’m keeping it small this year because life is a little crazy at the moment (good things, no one worry!) but I am still delighted to be visiting four other bloggers in the weeks after the book release: Lynn E. O’Connell of Little Lion Lynet’s; Katy of A Library Mama; Jessica of The Bookworm Chronicles; and Lynn of Lynn’s Books.

Of course, a blog tour requires a witty name, after I’ve done a Blog Wander, a Blog Waltz, and a Blog Banquet.  I got very stuck this year trying to think of an appropriate knitting term–and then it hit me.  Obviously I’m going to do a spin around the blogosphere!

Just so you know, I’m more punnish on my blog than in my books. 😉  Which you can find out for yourself on October 14th.  And you can already pre-order the Kindle version today!
