Saturday Snapshot: Minas Tirith in Vancouver

If you’re ever in Vancouver (as I was a couple weeks ago), I highly recommend visiting Granville Island.  It’s a collection of wonderful little shops, and there’s a big market as well.  My favorite was The Crystal Ark, which had all sorts of crystals and jewelry for sale (at insanely good prices!)

P1020558I enjoyed the Canadian geese too…  The Crystal Ark is online, but only has a small selection of their products available–which may be just as well, as I shudder to think of the shipping costs!

Minas TirithI was tempted by lots of things, but I ended up buying a crystal tower, because…Minas Tirith!  And naturally I had to put it in an appropriate place on my bookshelf when I got home.

Saturday Snapshot: Vancouver Landscapes

Last weekend, I took a trip up to Vancouver to visit a friend.  Today, some pretty water-and-mountains photos.  Maybe another week I’ll post about the botanical gardens!

This sculpture is a “Digital Orca,” and the sign says it’s melding natural elements with technology.  Everyone agrees it looks like it’s made out of Legos…

Saturday Snapshot: Scarf Success

A month or so ago I mentioned my new hobby of knitting.  I thought today I’d share my recently-finished scarf.  This was my first real project, and while it’s not perfect, it is fun to be able to see how my knitting improved from one end of the scarf to the other.

Scarf

It’s hard to tell here, but it’s about six feet long–I calculated how long to make it by measuring against another scarf, and it came out just the right length to reach to my waist when I wear it.

I have to say, this is the least time-intensive hobby I’ve ever had, since I only do it while I’m watching TV, or other things I would have been doing anyway. 🙂

Saturday Snapshot: Revisiting the Tomatoes

Just a quick post today…the weather has been sweltering here recently which I’m not thrilled about, but I guess it’s working out for my tomato plants…

Saturday Snapshot: New Shelves

Last week I shared about my haul from my library’s warehouse sale.  Well, I went to the sale on Saturday…then went out to buy new bookcases on Sunday!  I had been getting cramped on my shelves for a while, and I think the new O. Henry books marked something of a tipping point.

There’s not much space in the apartment at large, but I managed to fit in a couple more small bookcases.  As I rearranged my books, I decided to give a bookcase to my L. M. Montgomery collection…

LMM ShelvesThat top shelf may look disorganized…but the books are actually arranged in the order in which LMM wrote them.  I tried organizing them that way when I moved to this book case, and I still haven’t quite decided if I like it.  I may freak out at some point and put them back in series order!

LMM Shelves 2Here’s the larger context of where I put the bookcase.  This is my favorite painting by William Bouguereau, a French Academic painter.  Just a poster, alas.  (Here’s a better view, without the weird reflections.)  There’s no actual connection to LMM, but I feel like they fit together thematically…
