Blog Hop: Hearing a Story

book blogger hopThis week’s Book Blogger Hop question: Do you listen to audiobooks?

I do!  I only started in the last few years, which I largely account to reading other bloggers’ accounts of listening to audiobooks.  I also started a new job a few months ago with a longer commute, so I get more audiobook time in.  I only listen to audiobooks in the car, and out of respect for the fact that I am, after all, driving, I tend to listen to rereads rather than new books.  And preferably ones that won’t be too suspenseful.

Though I also have a habit of listening to Agatha Christie novels, which are both new to me and suspenseful so…I can’t explain that.

I’ve been using audiobooks to re”read” series, because I have so many new books I want to read (on paper) that I feel like I don’t have time to reread a lot of series.  So far, I’ve listened through the Narnia books, the Jacky Faber series (read by Katherine Kellgren, the best audiobook reader ever), and I’m midway through Little House on the Prairie and Harry Potter–I’ve been alternating those two.  I think next I want to listen to A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Betsy-Tacy books…or possibly the Anne of Green Gables series.

I also should note that, while I don’t read Doctor Who novels, I have enjoyed listening to several…read by David Tennant. 🙂

Do you listen to audiobooks?  Are your audiobook preferences different than your reading-on-paper (or device) preferences?

  1. I prefer print, but have listened to books on my way to work. Now that I have retired, not much alone time to listen. 🙂

I do listen when I am walking, though. No headsets. Just have it on loud. 🙂

    ENJOY your day.

    Happy Hopping!!

I don’t currently listen to audio books, mostly because my daily commute to & from work is pretty short. I think they’d be great, though, on a long plane flight.

Those who like audio books in the car might also enjoy a similar experience: listening to the old radio dramas and comedies of the 30’s and 40’s. Of course, many–probably most–of those old shows don’t hold up very well today, but the really classic ones are still good. My personal favorites are Jack Benny and Abbott & Costello, but there’s plenty of others available to suit the individual’s taste.

  4. I really want the audiobooks of Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry 🙂

    I love audiobooks. I don’t drive without one. 😉
