Saturday Snapshot: Bumper Stickers

My current car is the first one I haven’t shared (well, borrowed from parents, really), so when it became mine I decided to personalize!  Then I spent a few months not able to commit to any bumper stickers I saw in shops.  Is any random joke really that clever to stick on my car for years?  Finally I went online, and here’s what I ended up with…

When I bought “I’d rather be sailing the high seas with Captain Jack,” I of course meant Captain Jack Sparrow–and mostly I do still mean him, because he’s one of my favorite characters ever.  But if Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who invited me on a voyage, I’d go with him too!

As to being haunted by the Phantom of the Opera…that seems to say it so well.  He’s lived in my head for years.

The “Perform Random Acts of Shakespeare” one has prompted people to ask me if I’m in theatre.  I’m not–but I like Shakespeare.  And I quote him frequently.

The Starfleet emblem should be pretty self-explanatory.  And as to “Coexist” I do believe in coexisting, on a lot of levels; I wanted something different than the blue sticker everyone else has.  And space–it’s pretty amazing.

I felt like I could commit to all of these, because the most recent interest represented here is the Phantom–and that’s going on eight years.  So I’m pretty sure I’m not going to wind up turning away from any of these and regretting the sticker!

Anyone else have a cool bumper sticker?  Or do you remember seeing a fun one?

Saturday Snapshot: Iconic London

I didn’t plan to post London photos two weeks in a row…but with the Olympics starting this weekend, it just seems to be a natural focus!

Tower Bridge, not to be confused with London Bridge
Guards marching at Buckingham Palace
The famous Big Ben
Bobbies on Horses

Saturday Snapshot: Random London

I’ve had London on my mind quite a bit lately, probably because I’m going there in September!  I’ve been loving all the Paris photos that have been turning up in Saturday Snapshot this month, but I thought I’d represent the other side of the Channel today.  I have lots of photos from my last trip, and I could give you all my beautiful landmark photos–and maybe I will another week–but today I feel like giving you the random ones instead. 🙂

These statues are at the British Museum, and are just begging to be captioned, “If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs…”  With thanks to Rudyard Kipling!

This is a book vending machine, which just seems like a fantastic idea–not so much for the convenience (you can buy books lots of places) but for the mindset of it.  Why shouldn’t books be as readily accessible as unhealthy food?

I’m a fan of the Running Green Man.  That’s what I call him, and he shows up on signs here and there.  Stick figures in America are always walking so sedately.  All this fellow is trying to indicate is the direction of the exit, but he seems to be heading towards it at full-tilt.

I think I’ll make that my exit for the day too.  Head over to At Home with Books for more Saturday Snapshots!

Saturday Snapshot: New York, New York

As I’ve probably mentioned, one of my favorite things when I travel is to see places I’ve read about, or recognize from movies or TV.  So New York was quite the experience, as that seemed to be happening to me every time I turned around!  I counted media references in my trip scrapbook–over thirty.  I won’t try to tell you about all of them…  Here are just a few pictures I snapped with the thought, “oh, I’ve seen that!”

This bridge in Central Park is not only beautiful, but Patrick Dempsey strolls along it during Made of Honor, a very cute chick flick.

Bethesda Fountain, also in Central Park, figures in a great musical number in Enchanted.  It’s also the iconic image from Angels in America.  I recommend the first, not so much the second.

I was thrilled in Washington Square to unexpectedly stumble across the arch from August Rush, a wonderful movie starring Freddie Highmore.

Saturday Snapshot: Lazy Cat Photos

I am feeling inspiration-less with photography today.  Well, I actually have a couple of ideas, but not the time or the willpower to take the photos before I want to put this up!  So let’s have a lazy Saturday Snapshot with pictures of my cat being lazy. 🙂

Nobody here but us stuffed animals…
I don’t think I like this angle–it makes my paws look big.
Marathon napping is SO exhausting.
